Indonesia dan Malaysia Prioritaskan Cabang Olimpiade di SEA Games 2027

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia and Malaysia have agreed to prioritize Olympic disciplines in the competition program for the 2027 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, which will be hosted in Malaysia.

The move reflects a shared vision to elevate the regional event as a steppingstone toward higher-level competitions such as the Asian Games and the Olympics.

“Both NOCs (Indonesia and Malaysia) share the same spirit of how to maximize the SEA Games by including more Olympic events,” Indonesian National Olympic Committee (NOC Indonesia) Chairman Raja Sapta Oktohari said in Jakarta on Friday, February 20, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

He made the remarks alongside Indonesian Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir and Indonesian Ambassador to Malaysia, Raden Dato Mohammad Iman Hascarya Kusumo, while briefing the media on the outcome of their recent discussions.

Oktohari noted that informal talks with Malaysia’s NOC have been met with enthusiasm, underscoring the SEA Games’ role as a benchmark for athletes aspiring to compete at higher levels. He added that Indonesia is working to ensure that selected events can serve as qualifying opportunities for the 2028 Olympics.

The NOC Indonesia chairman emphasized that the Games should not merely serve as a platform for the host nation to secure overall victory, but rather as a regional stage that benefits all participating athletes. “It’s about maximizing the event, so every participant gains significant value,” he said.

Ambassador Hascarya Kusumo affirmed Indonesia’s readiness to support preparations for the SEA Games, while Malaysia pledged to intensify coordination with Indonesian stakeholders. He expressed optimism that the multi-sport event - planned across four Malaysian regions - will be vibrant, drawing strong support from both Indonesian fans and the host nation. ***
